Size your aircon. See what it'll cost to run.

This estimator uses the standard South African base of 600 BTU per square metre, then adjusts for ceiling height, sun exposure, insulation, occupants, appliances and room type. Running cost uses current Eskom and Mbombela municipal tariffs. Site visit still required for the final sizing.

Running cost

Inclining Block Tariff (IBT): Block 1 (0–50 kWh) ~195 c/kWh, Block 2 (51–100) ~256, Block 3 (101–600) 352, Block 4 (>600) ~404. Block 3 shown because any household running an aircon is already past Blocks 1+2 on baseline load — the marginal aircon kWh is always charged at Block 3 or higher. Next update July 2026 (~9–11% increase expected).
